A Moonshot Worth Taking

“I used to not be able to pick up my kid at the end of the day — I was in too much pain and I was too tired. I find that each day it’s getting easier and easier.”

Every year in the US, over $250B is spent on workplace injuries like the one above – real injuries affecting real people, not just on the job, but at home. The total cost of illnesses, injuries and deaths amounts to 3.94% of the annual global GDP — $2.99 trillion. Unequivocally, some of the 5,250 fatal work injuries recorded in 2018 were preventable. That, to us, is unacceptable.

Workplace injury is not a small problem. It’s an epidemic.

I grew up seeing people like my father endure preventable physical pain on their bodies while providing for their family. “Manual laborers” or “blue collar workers” – unlike more traditional sporting athletes – have been overlooked in an age of rapidly evolving technology. In many ways, they are the backbone of society, the lifeblood of our economy, the people who build the world around us. They stoically lift society up in so many ways — and yet, so many struggle to lift their own children after an honest day’s work.

I started StrongArm seven years ago to keep such Industrial Athletes™ proud, protected and productive. After five product families, 33 patent filings, and countless university, government and international research initiatives, our aim is unchanged, our mission the same: Improve the lives of workers everywhere.

The FUSE Risk Management Platform predicts and prevents workplace injury via a simple but powerful smart sensor and a proprietary algorithm years in development. Cloud-based and fueled by machine learning, FUSE gets smarter the more people use it — to date, we’ve helped more than 20,000 Industrial Athletes™ live safer lives, reducing workplace injury an average of 35% YoY.

At our inception, we fell in love with a problem, and left no stone unturned in the pursuit of a safety solution for the manual materials worker. Now, with everything from biometric tracking to robotic exo-skeletons under our belt, we are more confident than ever in the ability for data and real-time feedback to change the world. And yet, every single day we challenge our team to think faster and smarter about ways to eradicate this epidemic.

We will keep leading the fight for the hundreds of millions of Industrial Athletes™ around the world. With your support, we can accelerate our growth, hone our offering, and build a platform so life-changing that company adoption becomes a mark of pride, not just necessity.

Every day, in every corner of the globe, countless manual laborers return home hurt – too proud to complain, too riddled with pain to enjoy a meal with their family or have a catch with their kid. We can change that, one Industrial Athlete™ – or ten thousand – at a time.

That, to us, is a Moonshot worth taking.
